Crosland Announces New Project for Bluffton Area

Charlotte, N.C., July 2, 2008 – Crosland, one of the Southeast’s leading, diversified real estate companies, and Reed Development, leaders in the expansion and growth of the Lowcountry of South Carolina, have unveiled development plans for Buckwalter Commons, a 57-acre, multi-use project at the future intersection of U.S. Highway 278 and the planned Hampton Parkway in Bluffton, S.C., near Hilton Head Island.

A 53,543-square-foot Harris Teeter will be the anchor tenant for the 135,000-square-foot Phase I retail component. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2009, with the Charlotte-based grocer opening its store in early 2011. The second phase will include offices and medical/service facilities.

Buckwalter Commons will be an example of the company’s integration of sustainable development practices into its projects, such as the design of the project’s bio-retention areas and pervious pavements and preservation of original trees.

The intersection, currently under construction, will be the first signalized access point east of U.S. Highway 170. It is scheduled to open in November of 2010. The Parkway will serve as the gateway to several upscale communities, such as Hampton Lake. Hwy. 278 is the major route to the resort of Hilton Head Island.

“We are positioning the project to be vibrant and sustainable, with thoughtful design and integrated uses to serve the burgeoning Bluffton market area,” says Mike Wiggins, senior vice president of Crosland’s retail division.
