Historic Latta Arcade Welcomes New Tenants

Charlotte, N.C., May 5, 2008 – Latta Arcade, Uptown Charlotte’s historic retail, restaurant and office destination, will soon welcome new tenants Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina, Duncan-Parnell and Flavors of India.

At Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina (2,288 square feet), customers will be able to create a delicious made-to-order meal from a flavorful Fresh-Mexican menu that offers burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, enchiladas and salads with a broad range of meats, fresh vegetables and homemade salsas.

The restaurant will provide customers with a unique, contemporary lunch and dinner experience, and also offer a Quick Cantina Bar – a sushi-style taco bar that serves margaritas, daiquiris and piña coladas, as well as a variety of wines and chilled beers. The restaurant is slated to open in late 2008.

Founded in 1941, Duncan-Parnell (1,934 square feet) is a leading regional supplier offering solutions for the architectural, engineering, surveying, contractor and design professional fields throughout the Carolinas and Georgia. This will be the company’s fifth Charlotte-area location and is scheduled to open mid-summer.

As a long-term Charlotte company, we have always viewed Latta Arcade as a prominent spot to do business and when we had the opportunity to expand, we seized it,” said Toby Funderburk, VP and CSO for Duncan-Parnell. “We are very committed to serving the Uptown community and this new location.”

Flavors of India (475 square feet) will serve a menu of authentic Indian cuisine including salads, kabobs, rolls, chicken dishes and ice cream.

Located at 316 South Tryon Street in the central business district of Charlotte, the Latta Arcade has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the interior has been designated as a local historic landmark by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission. William H. Peeps designed the building, built in 1914, in the Beaux-Arts style. Its initial purpose was not only to house offices, but the skylight design served to provide natural light for the grading of cotton. In cooperation with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission, the construction of these tenants prompted the return of the space to the original designs, allowing exposed brick and higher ceilings to influence the tenants’ build-out.

The building is also home to architects Meyer-Greeson-Paulin and Charlotte favorites such as Chick’s Restaurant, Queen City Jewelers and Woody’s Hot Dogs.
